I think I watched Clive Barker's Hellraiser when I was 13 and was bitten by the SFX bug hard. I remember watching E.R., Chicago Hope and Casualty growing up and being fascinated with the wounds and grossed out by the gore. I watched Star Trek Next Generation, Voyager, Deep Space Nine and Stargate SG1, hungrily anticipating a new species of alien to walk on screen with all their forehead ridges, pointy ears, scars, symbios and slime. I then discovered the wonderful realm of fantasy horror, B-movies and slasher pics: Evil Dead, Braindead, the Alien Seriers, Battle Royale etc... I figured if the make up made me feel scared, nauseous, horrified or excited then that artist was doing a good job. My fascination grew into a hobby and evolved into an obsession: from painting on myself and my sister, to replicating simple wounds, to facepainting and now branching out into the wonderful world of practical special FX, prosthetics and mask-making.
